Resources

Here are some resources that my family and I have found helpful as we grieve our baby.  Different things work for different people, so feel free to take 'em or leave 'em.

Books to support young children.

The Invisible String.  by Patricia Karst and illustrated by Geoff Stevenson.

We were gonna have a baby, but we had an angel instead.  by Pat Schweibert and illustrated by Taylor Bills.

The Next Place.  by Warren Hanson.

Books to support a parent whose baby dies.

An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination: A Memoir.  by Elizabeth McCracken.
The author writes of her experience having her first child, a son, die and be stillborn.  She writes of the first year of grief and survival that follows.  I found much of this book applicable to my grief even though my son died a neonatal death, rather than a stillbirth.

Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife.  by Eben Alexander III MD.

CarlyMarie is a woman of many trades.  She is a mother of 4 children, 3 girls who live at home with her and one son who was stillborn.  She is a photographer who will photograph the name of children who have died in the sand of a beautiful Australian beach at Sunset.  Her site has much to offer, it is worth checking out.

This site offers multiple resources.  Including advice for how mothers can stop lactation after a baby's death, how to plan a baby's funeral, and how to help a friend who's baby has died.  There are several links to personal blogs segmented into babyloss themes (stillbirth, NICU, neonatal loss, etc.).  There are 2 pages offering discussion boards for parents of babies who have died.
